On the telly
Watch an 11-year-old Björk read the Christmas nativity story on Icelandic television
1976 clip aired one year before she became a musical star.
Next year, Björk’s set to release another studio album intent on reinventing the wheel. Arca’s had a hand in production. She’s been spotted at PC Music nights, absorbing future-pop in weird doses. But in much simpler times, she could be found on Icelandic television, retelling the story of the Christmas nativity.
A clip of the Scandinavian legend has been spreading on the internet, a few days before Christmas. It sees an eleven-year-old Björk telling the story of the birth of Jesus to classmates at her Reyjavik Children’s Music School. One year after this appearance, she’d be releasing her self-titled debut album before taking off on a completely unique career that hasn’t stopped turning in motion ever since.
The ten-minute scene is entirely in Icelandic, but it remains a brilliantly new glimpse into the star’s early days.
