Watch: Julianna Barwick Airs ‘One Half’ Video
Barwick bakes a cake which isn’t going to win Great British Bake off anytime soon.

In her new video, experimental artist Julianna Barwick makes a cake. It consists of gloopy icing and enough fruit to render five-a-day redundant. But let’s be clear: This cake is not going to get Barwick anywhere on Great British Bake Off.
First of all, the presentation is a little off. It’s a mess. Who knows what happened in the oven - did she take it out too early? - and the icing application isn’t good enough. The consistency isn’t there either. What was she thinking?
The fact is, Barwick understands that this cake - a true work of nature - just doesn’t make the cut. So she chops it up. She throws giant bits of yucky sponge everywhere. It doesn’t look very good for the environment, but it’s all the cake deserved.
Julianna Barwick’s ‘Nepenthe’ comes out 20th August on Dead Oceans.
