White Sands preview debut 7” with ‘Expect Nothing’ track
Exciting new trio welcomes in members from Mazes, Novella and Male Bonding.
White Sands light a spark. For everyone involved in the project, they’ve linked up after knowing each other from various bands. Conan Roberts is from Mazes, with Sophy Hollington (Novella) and Made Bonding’s John Arthur Webb completing the trio. Their opening gambit is a debut EP/7” release, ‘The Wait’, coming out 6th October on Art Is Hard Records. DIY is premiering a new track, ‘Expect Nothing’.
Linking up with the previously unveiled ‘The Wait’, this song ups the band’s levels of despondency, shape-shifting its way through three heady minutes with serious purpose.
Alongside our first play of the new track, we asked John Webb from White Sands to give a quick introduction to the project, from its beginnings at a wedding party to its bright potential.
Apparently you didn’t decide to form a band until you went to a wedding reception. What’s the actual story behind that?
Kinda true. We were at Ben Fuck Buttons wedding reception and joked about how the 3 of us looked like members of Fleetwood Mac due to the combination of hats, Stevie Nicks style dresses and leather waste coats. Things spiralled from there.
How much is this project a long-term thing for you guys? Are you sticking to just the one 7”?
I think we’re planning to keep recording and releasing stuff if people want us to.
What made you decide to release the 7” with a zine? What’s the best zine you’ve ever picked up from someone else?
Best: I picked up a signed Raymond Petitbon zine from the 80’s that is very cool. Worst: That teenage mutant ninja turtles sex zine. Some things should be left in the dark corners of your imagination. This is one of them.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
