Will Butler shares first track from debut solo album - ‘Take My Side’
Hear the first take from ‘Policy’ now.
Arcade Fire’s Will Butler is streaming ‘Take My Side’, a fizzing first cut from his debut solo album ‘Policy’.
With this lead cut, Butler’s unveiled a big hint towards a classically inspired, jagged ‘50s rock and roll style. His vocals - a background piece for his day job - are raspy, ringing true on top of a frenzied, jangly display.
Earlier today (24th November), Butler shared a trailer for ‘Policy’, showcasing several different shades that didn’t sound a touch like ‘Take My Side’. Plenty of surprises still to come, then.
The album was recorded in one week at Electric Lady Studios. A statement about the record describes it as: “American music — in the tradition of the Violent Femmes, the Breeders, the Modern Lovers, Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, the Magnetic Fields, Ghostface Killah. And John Lennon (I know, but it counts). Music where the holy fool runs afoul of the casual world.”
‘Policy’ is out 16th March in the UK via Merge Records, 10th March in North America.
