Will.i.am is full of terrible advice for Charli XCX: “just say random words”

Will.i.am has been dispensing advice for Charli XCX during the pair’s recent writing sessions, and, we’ll level with you here Will - it’s a bit iffy. The general jist: don’t worry about the lyrics too much.

“We were writing,” Charli told Q in a new interview, “and he was like, “The verse — just say random words. Nobody listens to the verse.””

Still, from the man whose lyrical oeuvre boasts gems such as “‘I’m so 3008, you so 2000 and late,” (‘Boom Boom Pow’) and “boom boom boom. That boom boom boom,” (also from ‘Boom Boom Pow,’ it’s perhaps to be expected. In our Chaz’s words, it’s “an interesting strategy”.

Elsewhere in the interview, Charli said that most of the songs on her new album are “about champagne in some way; partying with champagne, crying into champagne… everything else is about relationship situations.”

Charli XCX has promised a new album in May, and she’s also said that she’ll be putting out a mixtape in the meantime.
