Wolf Alice say fans will be “surprised” by debut album
The band’s Ellie Rowsell spoke to DIY about the recording of their first full-length.
It’s no secret that Wolf Alice have been building up to their debut album for quite some time now. With recording now mostly complete and their few loose ends being tied up, new material is now firmly on the cards but, for anyone lucky enough to see the band live recently, some track may strike a familiar chord.
“Some of the new material is stuff we’ve been playing live for quite a while now,” frontwoman Ellie Rowsell told DIY at the start of the year, “so maybe some people might recognise them, but the majority of it is new material.”
While a handful of tracks from their forthcoming full-length have been aired during their live shows, Rowsell did, however, confirm that they’re not planning on including too many of their previous tracks.
“There’s one song that’s an old song that everyone who’s heard of us will already know, and we’ve changed it a bit,” she revealed, without hinting at which of their older material it is. “It’s quite a big change, I wonder what people will think. I know when we change a song and we release that, people, well, internet people always seem to get really angry. It’ll be quite interesting to see what people think about it. I’m not gonna say which song it is, because that’ll ruin it!”
“I think people will be surprised,” she continued. “’Moaning Lisa Smile’ was our last single, and it was really rocky, and while we’ve still got songs like that on the album, the majority isn’t quite like that.”
