Brigitte Calls Me Baby - Irreversible

Further evidence that their upwards climb remains a steady one.

Brigitte Calls Me Baby - Irreversible

Almost two years on from debut ‘The Future Is Our Way Out’, ‘Irreversible’ finds Brigitte Calls Me Baby updating the home-grown, ‘80s-inspired indie sound they made their name on, but retaining its rock punch, as most often defined by Wes Leavins’ vintage vocals. ‘I Danced With Another In My Dream’ is one standout - an amusing-yet-profound tale of infidelity which pairs these with an infectious, danceable beat.

Where at points - particuarly on ‘The Pit’ and ‘The Acts Of Which We Were Designed’ - things drag, with tired, repetitive lyrics, Wes’ bandmates pick up the slack, as guitarists Jack Fluegel and David Rosendahl, and bassist Devin Wessels, orchestrate some velvety-soft rhythmic harmonies that carry the record back into fun, with the upbeat ‘I Can Take The Sun Out Of The Sky’. Not perfect, then, but further evidence that their upwards climb remains a steady one.
