The album opens on ‘Museum’, with an obvious 60s vibe; not a bad start. With more members than ‘My Life Story’, you’d perhaps expect Lemanis to create a bit more of a racket, but ‘The Truth About A Push Me Pull You’ is quite ordered and pretty damn good, too. ‘Colosseum’ is a little disappointing - it’s definitely darker than ‘Museum’ with its haunting strings, but the vocals are a tad shocking.
‘Wishing’ may bring to mind a folk version of Oasis but with far better singing. The overall sound is really rather beautiful. And it stopped ages ago. Where’s the rest of the song? Fourth track ‘She Was A Dreamer’ sees more of those God awful vocals. It would appear that Lemanis are alternating between good vocals and bad. Apparently the whole band (well, the main four, anyway) are ‘lead vocals’. No, they’re not. At least, some really shouldn’t be. Despite this, the music is actually something quite special. Just wish they’d lose the crap singer.
If it’s haunting melodies, emotive strings and folk-like brilliance you’re after, then Lemanis could well be the band for you. The only real downside is that ‘The Truth About A Push Me Pull You’ is such a mixed bag of brilliant and awful.
