Let’s Eat Grandma - I’m All Ears

Let’s Eat Grandma have always been an interesting proposition, a pair of vivid thinkers dreaming up consistently weird worlds to live in. On debut ‘I, Gemini’, though, the pair were bogged down by their own weirdness, the songs given little room to breathe, instead embellished to breaking point.

Two years was always going to be a long time for Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth, with both still not out of their teens, and the transformation seen on ‘I’m All Ears’ is a revelation. Spearheaded by single ‘Hot Pink’, it sees the pair focusing in on gigantic, chart-mingling choruses.

‘It’s Not Just Me’ toasts personal admissions over similarly euphoric synth-pop, while ‘Falling Into Me’ is a creepy, propulsive hammer-blow that sees the pair developing their own identities within the band, while never feeling more connected at once.

The vivid, emotional ‘I Will Be Waiting’ gives way to ‘Cool & Collected’, a nine-minute monster based around a slow, deliberate guitar lick that folds out into a cacophonous, creepy monster. Measured and calm where ‘I, Gemini’ was erratic, and packing some of the strongest pop punches we’ve heard in yonks, Let’s Eat Grandma look like they could go anywhere from here.
