LostAlone - I’m A UFO In This City

This piece stands out for all the right reasons.

Derby’s triumphant rock trio LostAlone have found themselves garnering many fans amid the stars of modern rock; Jared Leto and Gerard Way are but two of their acclaimed supporters. With their name thrown to the masses on many high-profile tours, they definitely had a huge reputation to live up to with their release ‘I’m A UFO In This City’ and, frankly, they have not disappointed.

The real flaunt of this offering is the band’s tight vocal harmonies primarily observed on both ‘Paradox On Earth’ and ‘Creatures’. The latter combines the simplistic and softer nature the band have doused throughout their repertoire and the rock-infused explosions that truly bring the numbers together. ‘Orchestra of Breathing’ encompasses this formula with a minimalist, soothing introduction that gradually increases intensity with hard, towering vocals against a simplistic backdrop. ‘Put Pain To Paper’ picks up the tempo of its predecessor, bringing in more smooth melodies and fleeting guitar flaunts.

Their next single ‘Do You Get What You Pray For?’ throws the listener some harsh, aggressive guitar backing working cohesively with soaring vocals. ‘The Downside of Heaven Is The Upside of Hell’ offers another dose of fully fledged rock and roll instrumentation with the twist of a stunning female vocal accompaniment.

Lyrically, they have delved into many subjects. ‘We Are The Archaeology Of The Futures Past’ seems a soundtrack of survival, to reach for the stars and never give up; citing when you hit a wall to ‘stand up tall’ and questioning ‘can you reach new altitude? We’ve fought so hard we cannot lose.’ Teamed with charming piano support, the light vocals of this piece cause it to become a minute anthem of empowerment. In the mix of upbeat numbers and rock ‘n’ roll flourishes, this piece stands out for all the right reasons.

Alan, Steven and Mark have produced an album they should be proud of and one that will undoubtedly cause even their most famous of fans to shout from the rooftops. There’s simply a definitive level of quality and energy throughout. As Mikey Way of My Chemical Romance once stated, they were like a little secret within music. Thankfully, the secret’s now out and – based on this release – they are ready to tackle the industry head on.
