Lovvers - Think

Punk rock refuses to die. Each generation has at least one new upcoming punk band with a sound of varying differences but with the roughly the same ideas. Last year it was undoubtedly Gallows. This year it is Fucked Up and Lovvers. Lovvers’ rampant and constant fire is electrifying. With a dirty, lo-fi production and scratchy lyrics, they are keeping to the principles of punk. They do however incorporate some aspects of reasonably recent trends. ‘Human Hair’ has similarities with The Libertines at possibly their most erratic times. Having said this, these two bands are completely different beasts. They just share common influences such as The Clash.

‘No Romantics’ is surely destined to become a modern classic. A hugely memorable guitar riff is almost completely constant throughout the song, which clocks in at a rapid 97 seconds. However, it is packed full of musical twists and turns. ‘Teenage Shutdown’ is a huge throwback to the past generations of punk. The rabid ‘No Fun’ highlights Shaun Hencher’s youthful vocals, which are biting with passion. The swirling ‘Wasted Youth’ practically defines Lovvers. Their bloodthirsty sound is a constant feature of this LP without a single let up. ‘Talk Cheap’ is one brilliant racket which ends an album, which will no doubt be talked about for a long time.

Lovvers lack a certain order and virtually any coherence whatsoever. Despite this, they achieve a hell of a lot in this frenetic, intense yet brilliant album.
