have an over familiar warmth about them, ticking all the boxes that Bella Union does so well. Muted rhythm sections, choruses with euphoria filtered though gauze and the tantalising whiff of beard combine to make ’Glory Hope Mountain’ like an old folky friend. But, hey that’s no bad thing; sometimes old friends bring the sweetest of treats.

Well, maybe it is on unremarkable tracks (‘Even While You’re Sleeping’) or ‘Oh Napoleon’ but they are lulling minorities in the band’s biographical journey.

‘Flood comes over a bit Vampire Weekend as the woah oh’s clamour for supremacy with clinking clapping. ‘Crooked Days’ meanwhile just works. The refrains melting the stoniest of naysaying smiles as ‘Low Gravity’ speedily runs away with itself under Rolf Klausner’s oh so slightly panicked vocals.

Enough quirky sprinkles to let the undoubtedly well crafted songs show off a bit The Acorn are the kind of band DIY will listen to when they are bored with the kids and women who like to rock. ‘Glory Hope Mountain’ may not get imbedded in your head andstuck in your teeth but gee, it sure is nice.
