already made an impression on many a persons record player this year, with it’s brash chants-and-cries-and-strings-and-drums-and-piano assault. It was like suddenly waking up and realising that the outside world existed.
‘Thunder Lightning Strike’ carries on where that left off. Quite frankly, it’s an album on a sugar rush. Instrumental spaz attack ‘Panther Dash’ is the musical equivalent of lighting a match in a petrol station forecourt - you know this isn’t going to be a chill out album from the word go.
The tempo never drops, and it’s remarkable how many different styles and genres are crammed into The Go! Team’s music. There is no way on earth it should work, so obviously, it sounds fantastic. ‘Ladyflash’ goes from Eastern strings to playground rhyme, via soul and then finally into 80s synth-pop. You really couldn’t make it up.
There’s no subtlety here, this is an album that’s loud, proud and intent on causing a fuss. It may not be The Next Big Thing, but it will make you grin like an idiot.
