Apes And Androids - Nights Of The Week

The separate elements of this track really shouldn’t go together, but there’s some weird alchemy going on here.

Imagine, if you can, Queen, The Police and Talking Heads entering into an all-in wrestling contest with MGMT, Prince and Neon Neon in the opposite corner – there’s never going to be an outright winner, and everyone is sure to fight dirty, while you can just sit back and enjoy the glorious mess that unfolds before your very eyes. This is what happens in the four minutes ‘Nights Of The Week’ infests your brain, in the nicest yet most bizarre way possible.

Your musical wrestling referees for the evening are Apes & Androids, duo Brian Jacobs and David Tobias, who aren’t afraid of throwing everything (including the kitchen sink, bath and washing machine) into the sonic equation. Like tartan trousers and a floral shirt, the separate elements of this track really shouldn’t go together but there’s some weird alchemy going on here which somehow makes the swaying synths, borderline hysterical vocals, Eighties stadium rock guitars and hand claps blend seamlessly together. ‘Nights Of The Week’ is the musical soundtrack to that ill-advised seventh night out in a row – you know you’ll regret the whole thing in the morning but the temptation is just too strong cos these Apes & Androids boys certainly know how to throw the mother of all parties.
