Belle and Sebastian - I’m a Cuckoo

Those upbeat anorak wearing melodies, the none-more-uplifting horn section, the lyrics that make getting up in the morning seem more a delight and less like a chore - it’s simply dripping in the lot.

Twee, fey pop-tinged indie. They’re probably sick of hearing that up in Scotland. If anyone mentions how lovely Belle and Sebastian are one more time, there’s a good chance we’ll be hearing gunfire.

‘I’m a Cuckoo’ is the second single from album ‘Dear Catastrophy Waitress’, and it’s everything you’d expect it to be. Those upbeat anorak wearing melodies, the none-more-uplifting horn section, the lyrics that make getting up in the morning seem more a delight and less like a chore - it’s simply dripping in the lot.

On top of that there’s a simply sublime remix by Avalanches. Turning the whole track upside down and relocating it into some bizzare mix of a Brazilian carnival and a folk convention is a stroke of genius which has no right to work at all, and yet does spectacularly.

In short, it’s twee, fey, pop-tinged indie. And don’t forget - it’s lovely too.
