Breton - Edward The Confessor

A deeply strange but fascinating pop single.

Breton - Edward The Confessor

South Londoner’s Breton have been hotly tipped for a long time now following a string of well received EPs over the past year. Now, in anticipation of their forthcoming debut album released on FatCat Records, comes their debut single ‘Edward The Confessor’ - and it perfectly encapsulates why there has been so much interest in the art pop electronic group.

Breton’s music is hard to categorize and even harder to pin down. There are a wealth of ideas at work, and ‘Edward The Confessor’’s jerky, lurching mix of electronics is a deeply strange but fascinating pop single. Breton are certainly not short of creativity.

There is a real pop sensibility at the heart of Breton’s work and despite it’s oddness, ‘Edward The Confessor’ really works as a quirky pop single. It is reminiscent, slightly, of Late Of The Pier - another young group full of ideas and invention; Breton certainly seem to share their boundless ambition.

There is a slight feeling that perhaps they may be better paring down some of their ideas and focusing on a killer tune, but that would dilute the progressive qualities that make Breton such a promising and exciting new band.
