Casiokids – Finn Bikkjen

Less of an electro anthem that ‘Fot I Hose’, but its beauty is remarkable.

An ability to understand Norwegian would help with reviewing Casiokids, as even technology has not succeeded to unravel the mystery that is the meaning behind the band’s song titles. A simple Google Translate of the title ‘Finn Bikkjen’ is essentially useless. It could be said that the vocals are essentially a croon, although without understanding the meaning of the lyrics, this cannot be stated as fact. Nevertheless, the vocals are incredibly beautiful and merge impeccably over the 8-bit electro-funk of Casiokids that has impressed many worldwide.

‘Finn Bikkjen’ is less of an electro anthem that ‘Fot I Hose’ is, but its beauty is remarkable. The instrumental accompaniment is somewhat akin to the ‘80s and New Order, with beats influenced by electro-pioneers Kraftwerk. It is a brave stand to sing in one’s native language, ignoring the marketability of English. Scandinavia has traditionally been a hotbed for producing great metal acts, but these days Casiokids are spearheading a new movement of Scandinavian electro, or ‘Skweee’ as Wikipedia states. An incredibly exciting new band, ‘Finn Bikkjen’ certainly justifies such widespread critical acclaim.
