Crocodiles - Mirrors

For a standard shoegaze track, it’s a pretty good one.

Crocodiles seem to be the band that’s defining ‘cool’ in the world of shoegaze right now. Last year, they released their second LP ‘Sleep Forever’ after having gained the indie crowds attention with their optimistically titled debut ‘Summer Of Hate’.

On the surface, new single ‘Mirrors’ fits perfectly with the standard shoegaze template: fuzzy vocals, a synth melody that sound immediately familiar and a backdrop of guitar noise. It doesn’t take much imagination to picture them performing this live in the backroom of a pub over an audience of hipsters with dishevelled haircuts (a view possibly augmented by the synths reminiscing the last Horrors’ album) cautiously tapping their feet at the beat. But, for a standard shoegaze track, it’s a pretty good one and quite possible the best single to result from ‘Sleep Forever’.
