Cut Copy - Blink And You’ll Miss A Revolution

A slice of upbeat pop ready-made for dancing.

“Have you heard the latest reinvention in the street? / Take me on a journey with the rhythm in my feet,” croons frontman Dan Whitford as ‘Blink And You’ll Miss A Revolution’ starts to kick in, setting the rather honest premise for the Australians’ newest offering.

Nor is it long before the premise is fulfilled in this funky indie-dance fest as it snakes in with some afro-beat percussion and paired back beats. Not wanting to miss out on electronica’s vogue for retro inspired producers, a few interludes of synth-string arrangements hint at a kind of naff 80s disco charm wedged somewhere between the Human League and A-Ha among all the silky smooth production, while the David Gahn-esque vocal yelps out a chorus that somehow tries to guide you on a futuristic dance odyssey.

However, it sparkles on the remixes. Toro Y Moi unexpectedly blends the song with some tech-house beats, converting it from a mere indie disco offering into something more-club ready, while the Das Moth and Kenji Takmi’s take verges on darker, stripped back techno.

Perhaps lacking the fun of the likes of Friendly Fires and maybe little on the formulaic side, it’s understated and slick. And while it might not scream “tune!”, ‘Blink And You’ll Miss A Revolution’ is a slice of upbeat pop ready-made for dancing those balmy summer nights away.
