Cut Copy - Far Away
4-5 StarsMuch more than cut, copy and paste.
Proving to be much more than cut, copy and paste, Cut Copy’s new single ‘Far Away’ opens it’s arms to an eighties pop revival tossing aside the padded jackets and embracing the era in the form of the best shimmering retro-electro-disco you’ll ever hear.
Following the success of their début ‘Bright Like Neon Love’, second album ‘In Ghost Colours’ has cemented their sound in the electronic pop indie genre, with dazzling results. ‘Far Away’ opens to an infectious catchy beat with sunny hooks and synth waves. Bopping of heads ensues, with the use of playful sonics and electro tinges pushing ‘Far Away’ on the right side of eighties pop while simultaneously providing that feel good factor as soon as you hit play. No Saturday night would be complete without this track!
Experimentation is the key, as the electro pulses leading up to the chorus provide the best synth riffs on the track coupled with electronic blips underlining the chorus. This is a well crafted pop song but with enough to keep the electro disco lovers satisfied. ‘Far Away’ can be compared to the electro style of Human League but the similarities start and stop there as Cut Copy rework it’s music into a brand new twenty-first century electro sound.
Peter Hook would be proud, now the only question remaining is which way’s the dancefloor?
