, despite being something a bit German sounding (Kraftwerk! Morr Music! Sausage!) and something explicitly erm, Pop (Kylie! Glitter! Boobs!) are infact erm, neither. The boys from Belgium deal in that altogether different kind of pop, the one that Phoenix are (probably) out and out kings of and that Alphabeat could be if they weren’t so bloody irritating.
The problem with this latest single is however, that it doesn’t really flow like it should. The build up staggers rather than glides silkily while the chorus’s guitar line sounds like it should precursor a midday soap about vets. Really boring vets.
The bright fiddle line goes some way to resurrect this momentary mistake but by then it’s too late. Confidence in ‘Underground’ is shattered and echoes of the really bloody awful and not at all good pop of The Feeling pervade the closing moments. And that, frankly, isn’t something that we’re feeling.
