are certainly having fun making music, their jaunty upbeat songs are definitely making them jump (any doubters need only visit YouTube for evidence of this in their homemade video for ‘Bruno’). Whether it is making us all jump and generally be joyous is a completely different question.
In its favour, it is a pleasantly down-to-earth pop song, easy going and oozing Summery vibes. It doesn’t, despite this, lose direction at all. In the laid back yet still purposeful style of Ra Ra Riot with similarities to the likes of Los Campesinos! and Cajun Dance Party, it is no wonder that the sweet Finsbury Park-inhabiting Finish brother and sister duo are building up a strong fan base. It is not, however, the most interesting of songs. Its childish naivety feels somewhat patronising to listen to and ‘Bruno’ does not develop much from the mindlessly basic melody. Indeed the brief chorus is surprisingly un-catchy considering its potential to be a charming sparkly pop-tune.
‘Bruno’ is a nice track, undoubtedly pleasant, but just somewhat lacking.
