Scotland’s most colourful pop band, Futuristic Retro Champions have released the simply entitled ‘FRC’ EP and, packaged in a delightful range of coloured CDs that look like vinyl, it hasn’t been off our stereo in ages.
Opening track ‘You Make My Heart’ is a fat slice of electro pulses and slick production, with a chorus that sounds ready for summer radio. Live favourite ‘DIY Lovesong’ follows, and despite its playfully innocent melodies is the owner of some of the most suggestive lyrics about powertools we’ve ever heard - definitely one for whistling down the Black & Decker isle of the local B&Q.
‘Let’s Make Out’ continues in a similar lyrical vein, with a more direct approach and less emphasis on the innuendo. It showcases some gorgeous lilting vocals and chord changes, whilst ‘Told Ya’ rounds the CD off nicely; it can only be a matter of time before this band get picked up.
