Pip Blom - Paycheck
4 StarsPip could have something genuinely interesting to add to the canon.
Following on from fellow Dutch natives Canshaker Pi, Pip Blom - now a full band, fronted by the singer of the same name - are the second recent fuzzy Amsterdam export to start making waves on UK shores. Fresh from touring with The Breeders, that particular union is one that makes total sense; ‘Paycheck’ rings with the kind of smart, seemingly effortless cool that the Deal sisters specialise in.
‘Pussycat’ is anything but meek, prowling along before blasting into a howled, joyful chorus; ‘The Shed’ tumbles along on more introspective shoegazing, while ‘Come Home’ begins on the kind of tingling guitar bends that show that Pip could have something genuinely interesting to add to the canon.
