It seems that whatever Esser releases is guaranteed to sound completely different from anything else he’s recorded, and with ‘Satisfied’ he’s sublimely continued this trend. The honky-tonk, chromatic Jewish Klezmer piano combines brilliantly with Esser’s discordant style. Whilst Esser sings his emotion-laden vocals, the bizarrely instrumented accompaniment changes constantly, a clear example of Esser’s fantastic song-writing ability. Amidst these conflicting parts are the makings of a real love song which are collected together into a supremely excellent track.
Esser is evidently an eccentric, an oddball even, and a severely intriguing one too. Whatever Esser tries his hand at will without a doubt be a thoroughly interesting project.
