Feeder - Tracing Lines
3 StarsEnjoyable enough, but only as a simple means to while away three minutes of your bus journey home.
Staggeringly enough the press release states that this is Feeders 31st single release through their label Echo. Rather sadly though, it feels as though the band are tired of coming up with anything new; this, their follow up single to the more upbeat ‘We Are The People’, chugs along in that familiar ever reliable way that Feeder seem to do so well. Except this time round the sparkle that previously inhabited their work, from the infectious early days of 1999’s ‘Yesterday Went Too Soon’ to the gloomy reflective work that was ‘Comfort In Sound’ in 2002, is greatly lacking.
The mid tempo track has all the ingredients of what once made Feeder such a lovable band, the fuzzy pop rock guitars are in place, the simple straight-down-the-line lyrics are there, but this is unfortunately Feeder by numbers, the sound of a band that is falling into decline despite their more recent offerings like ‘Lost And Found’ off the singles collection, suggesting that they had found their way again and more importantly, remembered how to pen a great tune. Having said this though, the single is still enjoyable enough, but only as a simple means to while away three minutes of your bus journey home.
