Fenech-Soler are the latest in a long line of hopefuls releasing music under the ever expanding umbrella of ‘electro’. From the moment this track begins a love of all things synth becomes apparent, quickly teamed with a slightly off-putting vocal that dances around the cusp of falsetto.
In the grand scheme of things, ‘Lies’ isn’t awful - it just doesn’t have any particular memorable moments. In a genre that is becoming increasingly more saturated, a hook is a necessity and sadly it is also something Fenech-Soler is missing in this track. The few lyrics that the song does boast are far too mundane to be deemed catchy and although the beat is, technically speaking, well put together it just isn’t enough.
It’s clear what is being aimed for here and it’s just unfortunate that the target finally hit is far too mediocre to make a lasting impression.
