Fixers - Swimmhaus Johnnesburg

The five-piece deliver another slice of sunshine psych-pop.

‘Swimmhaus Johnnesburg’ is a continuation of a theme for Oxford born Fixers. Their contemporary take on psychedelia continues to ooze with reverb ridden guitars, bellowing vocals and lashings of whoops and sirens.

The five-piece deliver another slice of sunshine psych-pop, a trait which Blessing Force’s current bloomers seem to have perfected. Front man Jack Goldstein’s etherial tone weaves it’s way through cleverly crafted 80’s synth and driving percussion before surging into an anthemic chorus.

As the countless layers of spacious effects wash over tightly curated hooks, Fixers’ unique avant-garde homage to The Beach Boys shines through. However, at points the sheer amount of effects unit battling for listeners’ attention is overwhelming and as a result it takes a few listens to appreciate all aspects of the track.

A slight downfall comes in being the follow up one of the summers stand outs ‘Crystals.’ It just feels slightly lacking in the catchy as hell department where previous tracks have been flawless.

That said, the rise of our Fixers is not over as ‘Swimmhaus Johnnesburg’ will undoubtably continue to swoon the masses. Let’s just hope the homegrown purveyors of US psych haven’t peaked too soon.
