FOE - Deep Water Heartbreaker

Intriguing layers of darkness, featuring organs fit for a house of horrors.

FOE (aka Hannah Louise Clark) has only just emerged from recording her debut album, but already she’s been ‘teasing’ fans with clips of the first single.

‘Deep Water Heartbreaker’ gets straight to the point, kicking in with a growling opening riff worthy of a heavy metal band. But FOE has no time for introductions. Her somewhat Metric-style vocals take over immediately, buzzing with electricity like she’s too loud for the speakers.

The chorus is rhythmic and persistently repetitive, like a child on a mission to get what she wants. Thankfully this track is concise, falling just short of the three minute mark. Any longer and the chanting might start to grate. Beyond that are intriguing layers of darkness, featuring organs fit for a house of horrors, passionate water-themed lyrics and swirling distortion that only adds to the strangeness.

If ‘Deep Water Heartbreaker’ is anything to go by, the forthcoming album will be full of quirks. FOE had every intention of teasing, and she has well and truly succeeded.
