Friendship - The Graveyard Shift

A grotty jive, spearheaded by fuzzed out, not-so-tuneful vocal and arse-ripping drums.

For the briefest of seconds, the looping, mightily jolly guitar riff to ‘The Graveyard Shift’ could quite easily appear on Vampire Weekend’s sneaky tom foolery with Paul Simon Records. But, as we say, that thought is only given the breath to air itself for a mere second, following which a heavily distorted bass thwacks out any misgivings and Ezra-thoughts you may have had. With friends like these…

Continuing in much this way it’s a grotty jive, spearheaded by fuzzed out, not-so-tuneful vocal and arse-ripping drums. The verse repeats, which too is curiously happy, considering its predilection for punishment both in intent and action. A lengthy play-around on the melodic guitar brings us away from the battering of those bass and guitar chords momentarily, afore we’re back on the right track. Loud. Brutal. Fun.

Very kindly though they’ve backed it up with a dub-ier version for those of you who like the music a little more nodding and less thrashing. It clicks and hums with an inverted vocal, somehow managing to sound all the more threatening for its less human quality.
