Listening to the lush soundscape of ‘Treehouse’, you would never guess that Gold Fields’ recorded it in their bedroom. Despite it’s DIY manufacture, the slick debut single from the up and coming Australian quintet practically glitters gold.
Weightless harmonies swirl around the ambient pop track as frontman Mark Fuller coos ‘Just turn the sound up and away we go’ - launching the track into it’s crystallised chorus which echoes the summer shimmer of Friendly Fires. A bass throbs away sinisterly between the airy layers of vocals - providing a quietly sneering back bone - while the clapping drums call forth loafer-clad feet to skip around the sand castles.
Alas, while such heatwave synths are nothing new, and indeed November may not exactly be the best time to be releasing such a dose of Vitamin D - all in all ‘Treehouse’ is truly impressive introduction to a band who are more than willing to provide us with a slice of sunshine amid the cold onslaught of winter.
