Herman Dune - Tell Me Something I Don’t Know
3-5 StarsA poppy Belle & Sebastian-esque tale of a content relationship.
Whatever happened to anti-folk? Around the mid-2000s the scene nurtured a few bands and solo artists who looked like they might go on to more widespread success, and in the case of Kate Nash some who did. However, in recent years the music press has dropped any mention of it in favour of blog-friendly compound genres such as chillwave or witch house.
At one point, Herman Dune sounded like they could have been one of the bands to breakthrough. However, if their new single is anything to go by the French duo appear to have survived the anti-folk tag relatively unscathed (apart from losing an umlauted ‘u’ in their name).
Their first release in three years is a poppy Belle & Sebastian-esque tale of a content relationship. With a slicker sound than some of their previous work and a video featuring a yeti and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm taking a road trip to watch the band, it could finally see them find the wider audience they deserve. Especially considering that at the time of writing their video was approaching 90,000 views, that’s probably about 80,000 more people than had heard of Herman Dune before.
