Husky Rescue - We Shall Burn Bright

On the evidence that the lead single from their third album provides, they deserve quite a lot more recognition than they’ve garnered so far in their career.

Finnish band Husky Rescue is a five-piece, yet somehow manages to create a sound that’s bigger than the sum of its parts. Even when the quintet rope in a few extra musicians (as they have made a habit of doing), they pull off something that seems much more powerful than their line-up would suggest. On the evidence that the lead single from their third album (‘Ship of Light’, out 25th January) provides, they deserve quite a lot more recognition than they’ve garnered so far in their career.

‘We Shall Burn Bright’ is, quite frankly, an understated masterpiece. An e-bow line provides the foundation of the track, and such instruments such as a moog and a French horn feature over five breathtaking minutes. The focus is on the instrumentation, Reeta-Leena Korhola’s vocals obscured by everything that’s going on around them. The band prove themselves to be masters of crescendo and climax, as everything builds gradually, but is never in any danger of becoming too overwhelming. By the time the song draws to a close, the listener feels as though they have been privy to something truly stunning. We shall burn bright, indeed - hopefully a sign of things to come.
