First off: yes, this is Sting’s daughter, but even though she sounds pretty similar to him vocally, that’s where any comparison ends.
‘Caesar’ is a melancholic dark electro track: throbbing synths, distorted hightempo basslines and the like. The verse / chorus trade off between Coco and Robyn works very well, the contrast in their voices utilised to great effect as Robyn’s impassioned singing is offset from Coco’s by disinterested then snarling turns of ‘We’re going to knock down the walls, knock down the walls’ as the end of the chorus approaches.
It’s much better than you’d expect any mainstream musicians offspring to create, actually. A pleasant surprise. Also, if the child of June from The Bill can go on to be one of the biggest names of 2009 then surely Coco Sumner is guaranteed success – no matter how much she tries to shake off that albatross.
There are also remixes by Miike Snow and Diplo to be found - Diplo’s stark, dubby mix is the one worth checking out of the two, but then everything that man touches turns to gold so you’d expect no less.
