Internet Forever - Cover The Walls

’s assessment that ‘when people say ‘lo-fi’, they mean you’re not trying’ might sound a little harsh, but on the whole, it’s probably true. At the minute, there are so many lazy, fuzzed up bands going about that there aren’t enough pages on the Vice website to fit them all. The real talent generally makes its way through, but it still must’ve bemused Internet Forever to be lumped in the same crowd, given the enormous difference in musical content to the noise scene. With their debut single, the band finally manage to draw away from the pack.

That’s not to say that the warm, fuzzy noise that haunted their demos has vanished without a trace - far from it. Both ‘Cover The Walls’ and ‘Pages Of Books’ still have the character and affection of earlier works, but now the song itself is allowed to take centre stage instead, showcasing the band to full effect. It reveals everything that you already knew: the band make some of the cutest, most personal pop music around at the minute.

In Laura Wolf, the band have a singer who can deliver lines such as ‘Freedom’s won like war anyway’ without sounding ironic or smug, but sounds joyous, especially backed with Heartbeeps’ quirky riffs and her own nimble drumming. They sound like the start of Summer, all running around, happy and carefree. In all honesty, either track could’ve been the a-side on this - both tracks are filled with the quality that most other unsigned bands can only dream of. A truly wonderful debut release; surely it’s only a matter of time before the long player.
