Islands ‐ The Arm
4 StarsWhimsical, popping, quirky, and usage of the descriptive ‘bad ass’.
Whimsical, popping, quirky, and usage of the descriptive ‘bad ass’ - it must be Islands, the band who are still shoving as much musical stuff as humanely, or synthesisedly, possible into one track. Cracking open the dressing up box for another single on Rough Trade, the midsection alone boasts a mix of jaunty strings, irregular drumbeats, hoorah shouts, a knees up pirate anthem and more than a slightly sinister call of ‘That’s why the arm came for you’. Phew.
Joined at the end by a rainshower of noise Islands are the indie pop/rock/everythings should-be-favourite entertainers, and they are asking what would you like to do today? It’s time to shout at the top of your lungs, EVERYTHING!
