Jessie Ware has already established herself as one of the UK’s most promising singers with her numerous guest appearances on electronic records and her excellent debut single, last year’s ‘Strangest Feeling’. Second single ‘Running’ sees her truly crystallising that promise and taking her soulful pop sound to a whole new level.
Produced by The Invisible’s Dave Okumu and Julio Bashmore, ‘Running’ is a supremely well crafted slice of classic soul pop. Ware’s voice is poised and pure, reminiscent of Sade. It is a perfect complement to the smokey grooves and slinky sound of a track that gradually worms its way into your head. The drums echo and a repeated guitar lick gives it a lovely sultry sound. This single contrasts from a lot of Ware’s previous work, as there is nothing electronic about this track, it all sounds completely organic and natural.
Mention must also be given to the Disclosure remix, which aligns Ware’s vocals to a brilliant two-step garage sound giving the track a completely new dimension. 2012 should be a big year for Jessie Ware, and ‘Running’ is a perfect way to start it.
