Jessie Ware - Strangest Feeling

The rise of South London singer Jessie Ware over the past couple of years has been slow but steady. Head turning collaborations with some of the freshest and most exciting electronic producers in the UK, in the shape of SBTRKT and Joker, have established a fantastic platform for Ware to launch her career in her own right with debut single ‘Strangest Feeling’.

Released on burgeoning electronic label PMR Music, the track is a rather curious choice of a debut single. The hooks are subtle and understated rather than in your face, this is very much a slow burner rather than a hands in the air anthem, but it is all the better for this restraint.

Ware’s soulful, resonant vocal dominates and the sparse beats and strident bassline allow her vocals to breathe. It all creates a lovely blissful effect as Ware dreamily meditates “I’ve been having the strangest feeling / that you walked out on me one evening.”

There is a great contrast between the undeniably fresh and exciting beats and the classically smooth, soulful and extremely captivating vocal from Ware that floats serenely over the backing.

Jessie Ware’s electronic pop sound is completely of the moment, but it is Ware’s supremely assured vocals and pop nous that really make this a special debut single. Expect big things in 2012 from a very exciting new talent.
