With a band name like Kisses and a single named ‘Midnight Lover’, you have no option but to release your track on Valentines Day. Baring that in mind, it’s at the very a least a bit of a shame if the person assigned to review that single ends up with a positively deadly combination of scary viruses that prevent her from writing anything about it before the next month has arrived. And it is even more sorry if the single in question is as good as Kisses’ track is.
‘Midnight Lover’ is disco that can rival some of the best of acts like Hercules and Love Affair, combined with just a hint of chillwave from the likes of Memory Tapes, resulting in a track to which it is impossible to sit still and listen. Jesse Kivel’s voice is admittingly not amazing, but combined with the simple lyrics and pure pop melodies you don’t need a great voice to make this a great track. It might not be a killer on the dance floor, but it is damn catchy.
