Boy Better Know ransack Reading 2016
The grime collective draw a crowd that’d make even the most seasoned headliner wince.
The amount of people at Boy Better Know’s main stage Reading 2016 set would make even the most seasoned headliner wince. There’s not a sign on any of their faces that they’re feeling the pressure though, as the collective plow straight into a set that feels like it could define the festival for years to come.
Wheretheir triumphant Wireless headline set proved they’re top of their pile, taking to Reading’s biggest platform they take the the festival as their own. ‘Shut Down’ predictably erupts, but even those which weren’t blessed with endless radio play are belted back by a crowd that’s surely in the tens of thousands. Solo 45’s ‘Feed Em To The Lions’ is every bit as vicious as its title warrants, mosh pits opening up and subsequently crumbling as far back as the eye (or the cameras that film the carnage) can see.
Lethal Bizzle joins them for ‘Pow’, a firebomb of energy that’s fittingly accompanied by pyro that the countless rock bands at the festival this weekend would sell a soul for. “This is a family ting, it’s not a celebrity thing - I fuckin’ hate celebrities,” Skepta spits. Dedicating ‘Man’ to the friends and relatives that flank the stage, Reading explodes. To count BBK out of headlining in years to come is fucking madness. They’re ready to take the slot right this second.
