Metronomy - Night Owl

Swathed in a smoke machine rather than bathing in glitter.

Joe Mount’s shock decision not to tour the new Metronomy album isn’t the only thing hinting at a change of stance for the former party-starter. On latest single ‘Night Owl’, he’s skulking away in the shadows once more.

Taking that reluctance to step into the limelight of the titular night owl, Mount shrugs off the flamboyance of last album ‘Love Letters’ in favour of something altogether more gloomy. Still very much influenced by Metronomy’s love of the disco dancefloor, but swathed in a smoke machine rather than bathing in glitter, it’s a murky take on the excesses of the nighttime - one that’s perhaps better suited to a lights-off listening party than a festival headline slot, after all.

Metronomy’s new album ‘Summer 08’ is out July 1st via Because Music.
