have had a string of bad luck recently. Drummer, Alex MacKenzie has once again been hospitalised but this time part-way into a non-stop tour. Perhaps latest single ‘Bloodsport’ will see their luck change.
Misty vocals and electro overtones thrown over a solid backdrop of steady beats see the single off to a good start. More down tempo than previous singles, this track takes a bit of getting into.
Singer Thomas Charge Burke’s vocals are almost as translucent as his skin, boasting a haunting edge that could place him ahead of his contempories.
More like an eighties revival than anything ground-breaking, ‘Bloodsport’ is nice enough to listen to but lacks the hook notably present in other efforts. The band took the decision to go for something a bit darker and lyrically more evocative but sadly at the loss of the angular, catchy pop we’ve come to expect from them.
Overall, something a bit different but probably more for the fans than the general public. Still, Official Secrets Act have made their presence known here at This Is Fake DIY, and we’ll certainly be spying them out over the summer months.

Official Secrets Act – Understanding Electricity

The debut album from Official Secrets Act is a sci-fi epic of the type that only Brits can do. It’s a Tears For Fears referencing album that’s not afraid of using repetition and hypnotic mesmerising pieces of music. It’s even kind of prog. It’s also one of the debut albums of the year and chock full of great pop tunes.
