Athens, Georgia is famously the hometown of R.E.M. who are perhaps America’s greatest indie group. Therefore, there is an incredibly hard act to follow for any other band coming from the city. Fortunately, for Athens’ new brightest hopes Reptar, their idiosyncratic party sound could not be further away from their old forebears.
Newly signed to Lucky Number, the four piece’s debut single is a joyous slice of indie pop full of vibrancy. Reptar specialise in fuzzy hook filled rhythms and melodies and there are plenty of those amidst the insidious hooks of ‘Stuck In My ID.’ Producer Ben H Allen gives the track a glossy pop sheen which complements nicely singer Graham Ulicny’s keening vocals.
Resembling a rather more straight ahead Passion Pit, the single has the potential to be another crossover hit in much the same way as last year’s American indie dancefloor slow burner ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ by Foster The People. Expect to hear this debut slowly supplant itself into your head over the next few months.
