Signals - Silverfish

Pseudo-power metal punk pop. Signals’ ‘Silverfish’ is pretty homeless in the genre metropolis. It’s not that it’s particularly obscure, just that its slightly pastiche nature doesn’t equip it particularly well to endear.

It’s pop playing thrash made manifest on garageband. There’re moments where rock n roll bass lines sweep in, others where too-tight computer snare blast rolls accompany guitar taps, but for the most part it’s kinda indie punk or some shit.

That’s its thread, that’s its core. The vocals, prone to falsetto, aren’t great. They aren’t strong. The lyrics neither. Indie with metallic punk tendencies? Maybe. That accounts for that voice being a little out of place. Furthermore, it explains the distinct air of pastiche.

In what sense is it homeless? In the sense that not many will take it in. Surely none would have have it for more than a sleep-over. Full of gay abandon, it’s been living rough for an afternoon, but ‘Silverfish’ will surely perish in its first cold night outside.
