Barely sixth months into their doubtless glittering pop career, Sweaters are a shiny new band straight out of California, and while it’s a bit of a cliché to think that every band coming out of that part of the world is born singing golden four-part harmonies, well, with Sweaters you’d have to admit it’s true.
Like a slacker Beach Boys for the 21st century, Sweaters exude laid back cool while slyly keeping half an eye on a killer pop hook. Kooky, hooky and definitely more than a little woozy, ‘Sky Mall’ is like a pristine pop record from decades ago left out in the blistering sun just a little too long until sunstoke begins to kick in. Like a the drips of a melting ice cream, the vocals slide around deliciously while the piano stumbles around a few paces behind like your pet dog after a long walk on the beach. According to long range weather forecasts, we’re in for a sweltering summer and clever old Sweaters have got in there early with its perfect joyous soundtrack.
