When the acoustic introduction of ‘In My Head’ begins, you might be forgiven in wondering where exactly Swound! are going with this track. Fortunately within seconds a kick-and-snare heavy beat comes in, with Weezer-inspired guitars hot on their tail. If that doesn’t appeal, then you’re out of luck; though there are other sounds in the mix, they’re all very Seattle 1991.
The obvious criticism is that there’s little original here, but after years of naff post-punk bands in the mainstream and twee folk being the cool new thing, a bit of loud rock is nothing if not refreshing. They say that music fashions go in circles – so maybe we’re overdue a grunge revival? Frankly, we could live with that if all the bands were as good as Swound!.
