Teengirl Fantasy - End
The mysterious and wispy sounds here suggest there’ll be much to savour when the record is released next month.

American electronic pop types Teengirl Fantasy established their experimental, euphoric sound on 2010’s debut, ‘7AM’. In the two years following, the duo of Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss have been feted just about anywhere, and forthcoming second effort ‘Tracer’ is set to feature guest appearances from Panda Bear, Laurel Halo and Romanthony (he of the famous hook from Daft Punk’s ‘One More Time’).
This first track to be unveiled from the album, ‘End’, signals something of a slight change for the duo: their blissful rave sound is tempered by morose piano sounds and the gentle patter of a glockenspiel. The mood has switched very much from late night exuberance to early morning comedown. The melody gently spirals out amidst flickers and flutters of sound, textures, and the faintest hint of a beat. The overall effect is ever so slightly disorienting, but compelling at the same time.
The duo have stated that ‘Tracer’ will be a more mature proposition than their debut, and the understated pleasure of ‘End’ is perhaps a perfect indication of what is in store. The mysterious and wispy sounds here suggest there’ll be much to savour when the record is released next month.
‘Tracer’ is due to be released on 20th August 2012 via R&S Records.
