Ah, perfect timing! A band called The Holidays releasing a single in the summer hols, how’s that for planning, eh? There might just be one minor catch here: they’re from Australia, meaning that it’s actually winter over there. Do they have winter holidays, Down Under, matching our summer holidays? Or do they save all that time up to have an amazing Christmas holiday? Oh, the questions that are brought up by such a simple band name!
‘Golden Sky’ is the second single to be released of the forthcoming debut album ‘Post-Paradise’ of the quartet, after already having released two EPs to critical acclaim in their homeland. As you might expect when taking in the band and track name, it actually is the perfect soundtrack to a summer holiday – upbeat at the start, slightly tropical and just a bit repetitive and boring near the end when you’ve seen everything you want to see but still have to wait a few hours before you can reasonably retreat back to the airport for your flight home.
Their music reminds of The Drums or Darwin Deez sans the hooks or catchiness, which makes their music slightly more bearable. There’s no silver lining on The Holiday’s ‘Golden Sky’.
