The synths thump along like a stalling computer game, the ‘vocoderised’ chorus vocals soar and swoop, and the beats are fierce. This is the makings of an electro opus recipe for sure. But something is not quite right. It does not whip you into a dance like most blazing dance songs should. It is a reasonably pleasant song, but it lacks a certain zest. Some songs’ optimum defaults are in the form of remixes, and that is the case with ‘Everything Good’, the accompanying remixes certainly show this. But putting the ‘remixability’ aside, there’s little substance within this song. It has a reasonably edgy vibe to it, yet it doesn’t aggravate or take you on a walk anywhere.
There has been a huge electro/dance movement in the past few years, and a lot of incredibly innovative and interesting bands have come to the forefront of this. But there have also been a number of decidedly sub-standard bands and this albeit a bit harsh is the closest to where The New Devices lie.
From ‘Everything Good’, it can be deduced that The New Devices are just another electro band.
