Thomas Tantrum - Rage Against The Tantrum

Like most good pop, this doesn’t venture past the three minute mark.

“I won’t take no for an answer, I was born to be a dancer”

is the vocal refrain that opens ‘Rage Against The Tantrum’ and serves as a chorus that delights in getting itself lodged in your brain. The guitars are stabby and the rhythms have tinges of exotic percussion. The vocal performance from singer Megan Thomas is characteristically brilliant, maintaining the fine balance between really twee and full on pop.

Lyrically the song doesn’t seem to be about much, yet at the same time it manages to convey a quiet joyous feeling. In other words it’s very much the more hip cousin to Alphabeat’s ‘Fascination’, but without the boy vocals.

An excellent single from an easily more excellent album, ‘Rage Against The Tantrum’, like most good pop, doesn’t venture past the three minute mark. It will doubtlessly grate on some, but there’s always a crowd who can’t appreciate good pop. There is plenty to like about this band, and should appeal to those who want a much less annoying alternative to The Ting Tings. And you hear the girl. She won’t take no for an answer, so get dancing.
